Google Maps Android Presents More Customized Car Icon

JAKARTA Google Maps for Android is getting closer to the features offered by Waze, by presenting more options for customizing car icons when navigating.

Since 2020, Google Maps has provided four choices of vehicle icons, namely arrows in white circles, red sedans, yellow SUVs, and green pickups. However, now users are starting to get notifications about a new feature called Your ride, your way', which allows more customization options for car icons.

In this update, users who get initial access can choose a more detailed car icon, including:

- Luxury sedan- Pickup off-road- SUV- Sport Car- Hatchback

In addition, there are eight new color options for the vehicle icon, namely:

- Glacier White (White Snow)- Night Black (Black Night)- Ash Gray (Abu-abu Gray)- Poppy Red (Red Bright)- Sky Blue (Blue Blue)- Sunny Yellow (Yellow Yellow)- Aqua Green (Sea Hijau)- Sunset Magenta (Magenta Senja)

Previous vehicle icon options remain available in this update.

Availability on Android and iOS

This feature was first seen on the Google Maps beta version 25.06.x for Android, but is not widely available in the stable version. Meanwhile, iOS users already got this feature.

If this feature is available to you, the car icon can be customized through the "Trip options" menu by selecting "Vehicle icon while navigating" in the Google Maps application.

This update will further improve the navigation experience, allowing users to customize their virtual vehicle display according to personal preferences.
