Kaspersky Records Nearly 20 Million Web Threats Throughout 2024 In Indonesia

Throughout 2024, Kaspersky managed to find and block 19,171,977 web-based attacks in Indonesia, down 34.85 percent compared to last year's 29,426,930 detections.

The number of cyber threats fluctuates, and it doesn't decrease uniformly. The perceived decline can stem from several factors, said Yeo Siang Tiong, General Manager for Southeast Asia in Kaspersky.

Some of these factors are an increase in detection and prevention technology that covers the true volume of threats, a shift in striker tactics, a focus on high-value targets, and an increase in investment in cybersecurity awareness training.

This comprehensive explanation shows a complex picture of the cyber threat landscape, and not just a decline in overall malicious cyber activity, Yeo continued.

In addition, Kaspersky is also observing a spike in "drainer" activity on the dark web in 2024. This is a malicious tool designed to steal user crypto assets, such as tokens or NFTs.

Drainer has only appeared throughout the year and has been actively promoted on various dark web platforms. In general, the number of unique threads discussing the drainer on the dark web increased from 55 in 2022 to 129 in 2024.

"With Kaspersky's latest data for Indonesia and last year's dark web market trend, crypto enthusiastically in the country needs to be more vigilant than ever before, adopting strong crypto security measures," he stressed.

Not to forget, Kaspersky also expects to see the number of data breaches in general on important targets, ransomware group fragmentation, and growing hacktivisms by 2025.
