JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs, Meutya Hafid, emphasized that digital platforms that spread pornographic content will be dealt with firmly.

In this case, digital platforms that fail to remove child pornography content within a maximum of 1x4 hours after receiving reports will be subject to large administrative fines and other sanctions.

This step is one of the government's steps in creating and protecting digital spaces that are safe from all distribution of harmful content.

"Protecting children from the negative impact of the internet is a top priority. There is no tolerance for platforms that are negligent," Meutya said as quoted Monday, February 3.

Based on the Decree of the Minister of Communication and Information Number 522 of 2024, User-Generalized Content Electronic System Operators (PSE UGC) are required to take down content that violates the rules within a certain period of time, according to the level of violation urgency.

For content related to child pornography and terrorism, PSE UGC (digital platform) must delete the content within a maximum of 4 hours of notification being received.

This policy is implemented to ensure a quick response to content that has the potential to threaten the safety of the public and children's morality in the digital space.

"This is not only a matter of regulation, but a moral responsibility for the future of the younger generation," he said.

Following the steps of countries such as Australia and the European Union, the Minister of Trade emphasized the important meaning of progressive policies for digital security.

Meanwhile, President Prabowo Subianto has ordered the Ministry of Communication and Industry to finalize regulations regarding child protection in the digital space no later than the next two months.
