JAKARTA - Many multimedia companies in various countries allow their employees to work from home or Work From Home (WFH) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now Google is also extending the period of time its employees work remotely until July 2021.

Previously, Google only allowed its employees to work from home until at least the end of 2020. However, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai took the decision to allow 200,000 of his employees to work remotely.

"So that employees can plan ahead, we are globally extending the option to work from home until June 30, 2021 for positions that are not required to be in the office," said a Google spokesman, as quoted by The Verge, Tuesday, July 28.

Google previously announced plans to reopen some offices for a minority of employees starting July 6, but being present at the office is now optional. Later, Pichai will specify a more specific time frame for remote working in order to provide certainty for employees to work form home.

Prior to this, Facebook and Twitter have also announced policies that allow employees to continue working remotely. Twitter even allows employees to no longer need to attend the office if it is not an important business.

According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the development of current technology facilities strongly supports changes in remote work systems. This policy will not only be applied to employees who work in Silicon Valley, but also several other Facebook branches.

"For now, the vast majority of employees are working remotely and are likely to continue to do so for the coming months. We have announced that anyone who can work from home can continue to do so at least in 2020," said Zuckerberg.
