Epic Games Plans To Expand Into The Entertainment Industry, Makes A Fortnite Movie?

JAKARTA - Fortnite developer Epic Games is surprisingly planning to dive into the entertainment industry, and make a film based on its popular battle royale game.

This information was first obtained by The Information, which claims that Epic Games is looking to diversify its properties in light of legal battles with Apple and Google, which have crippled its ability to profit in the smartphone market.

If indeed the company goes ahead with the plan, a Fortnite movie appears to be high on the agenda. What's more, the feature-length Fortnite film is also allegedly being discussed at the moment.

Compiled from TechRadar, Tuesday, October 12, although Epic Games doesn't yet have its own entertainment division, recent recruits confirm rumors that the company is really serious about getting into the filmmaking business.

Epic Games itself has recruited several executives from Lucasfilm. Most notable is Jason McGatlin, former vice president of Physical Production at Lucasfilm and now president of Special Projects at Epic Games.

According to the course of his career, McGatlin has served as executive producer on all the Star Wars films released under the Disney umbrella since 2015. Will McGatlin prove his worth in the film adaptation of Fortnite?

In fact, there are many ways Epic could decide to adapt Fortnite into a film, not least because many films have also been adapted into the game Fortnite itself.

The game has played host to superheroes in movies like Batman, Superman, Black Widow and Spider-Man, beloved action heroes like John Wick and Master Chief and iconic villains like Venom and Predator were also there.

Then there are the myriad of performances by singers such as LeBron James, Neymar Jr and Ariana Grande, which provide further potential for cross-industry. Unfortunately, it is not known for sure whether the plan will actually be carried out by Epic Games.

The bottom line of it all is, that in today's creative climate, it's no surprise that Epic Games might seek to tap into the big screen potential of its most successful properties.
