Facebook Shuts Down Again Friday, Apologizes Again For The Same Mistakes Over And Over Again

JAKARTA - Facebook Inc again apologized to users for a two-hour disruption to its service on Friday October 8 and blamed another faulty configuration change for the second global outage this week.

The company confirmed its social media platforms, Instagram, Messenger and Workplace were also affected by the latest outage.

"Sincere apologies to anyone who was unable to access our products in the last few hours," the company said. "We fixed this issue, and everything should be back to normal now."

During the last outage, some users were unable to load their Instagram feed, while others were unable to send messages on Facebook Messenger.

The public on social media quickly turned to Twitter to share memes and jokes about the week's second service outage. "Looks like Facebook is off to a 3-day work week. Closed Mondays and Fridays?" said one Twitter user.

Instagram thanks users for their patience and "for all the memes this week".

On Monday, October 4, the social media giant blamed a "wrong configuration change" for the nearly six-hour outage that left their 3.5 billion users failing to access social media and its messaging services such as WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger.

Monday's outage was the biggest ever seen by web monitoring group Downdetector and blocked access to the app for billions of users, leading to a spike in use of social media and rival messaging apps.

Moscow officials said Monday's outage showed Russia was right to develop its own social media network, while EU antitrust chief Margrethe Vestager highlighted the impact of relying on only a few big players, underscoring the need for more rivals.

The two blackouts added to pressure on Facebook this week after a former employee who became a whistleblower accused the company on Sunday of repeatedly prioritizing profits over suppressing hate speech and misinformation.
