Your device may be designed not to have an auto-rotating screen. This can be seen with rotation lock disabled in your iPhone's default settings.

You can try an app that you know supports rotation, such as the Safari web browser, to confirm that your device supports automatic screen rotation or not.

Turn off iPhone Screen Rotation Lock

If your iPhone screen rotates erratically and doesn't follow where the user is holding the device, you can turn off screen rotation on your iPhone, iPod, or iPad. This can prevent your device screen from rotating erratically.
