JAKARTA - Alphabet Inc's YouTube removed the Russian-backed German-language channel RT on Tuesday, September 28 on the grounds that it had violated the platform's COVID misinformation policy.
"YouTube always has clear community guidelines outlining what's allowed on the platform," a YouTube spokesperson said.
Initially the German channel RT was reprimanded for uploading content that violated YouTube's COVID misinformation policy, which resulted in the suspension of posting rights on the platform for a week.
During the suspension, Russian broadcasters tried to use other channels to circumvent the ban on uploading content.
"As a result, both channels were terminated for violating YouTube's Terms of Service," the spokesperson said.
All videos uploaded to YouTube must comply with its guidelines governing the types of content allowed on the platform.
