NASA Launches Augmented Reality-Based First Woman Graphic Novel, Free Download

JAKARTA – The United States National Space Agency (NASA) is reported to have released a graphic novel type comic titled First Woman. The comic is equipped with Augmented Reality (AR) support and can be downloaded for free by readers around the world.

The graphic novel was launched by NASA on National Comic Book Day on August 14, 2021. Now users can download the comics in pdf form on the official NASA website or via this link. In addition, users can also read it online and listen to the audio version.

In the comic First Woman: NASA's Promise for Humanity made by NASA, it tells the story of a character named Callie Rodriguez who becomes the first woman on the Moon. The story in the comic is inspired by NASA's Artemis program for the next Moon landing mission.

Slashgear reports that NASA's interactive graphic novel is intended to inspire the "Generation of Artemis" of young people who dream of working for the space agency and, perhaps, one day traveling to space. NASA also uses its graphic novels to present various technologies regarding exploration and travel on the Moon.

With AR technology, readers will see objects in 3D when reading the comic. In addition to objects, readers will also see the environment around the Moon, the Orion spacecraft, and others at their original size.

The First Woman comic is only 40 pages thick and is not intended for passive readers. This means that readers will be able to play games, watch videos, and collect badges with the support of AR technology.

On the cover of the comic is written Edition #1. It is likely that NASA will be working on the next issue of comics in the near future. NASA also said it would launch a Spanish version. This is the first time NASA has launched a comic that focuses on lunar exploration.
