Xiaomi Tests Widgets Similar To IOS Design

JAKARTA - Last month Xiaomi was reported to be working on an iOS-like widget for MIUI aka the interface system. Now, this widget is available in beta.

Users with supported devices running the MIUI China Beta ROM can immediately experience these new UI elements. During the initial testing phase, only a few first-party apps supported the new widget system.

But citing Gizmochina, Monday, September 27, Xiaomi said that the developers of six popular apps in China have updated their apps for compatibility and even introduced some widgets at this time.

This new widget will later support third-party applications that currently have widgets for MIUI, such as the Baidu application, Baidu Map, AutoNavi Map, QQ Music, Douyu or TikTok, and WPS Office.

In addition to this application, users can also experience widgets from the default MIUI applications such as Gallery, Notes, Clock, Security and others. Widgets can be placed both in App Vault and on the home screen. This interface system also supports dark mode. It is claimed, the widget that adopts the iOS design will be launched simultaneously with MIUI 13.

Unfortunately, the widget is now only available on select mid-range and premium smartphones such as Mi, Redmi, and Xiaomi running MIUI China Beta ROM. It is not known when this feature will be available in the global market, but testing will last until October 20.

Android has always had widgets with an old-school design. Since Apple introduced widgets in iOS 14 last year, competitors have started following the Cupertino, US giant, starting with Vivo OriginOS.

Not only that, Google has also overhauled the Android widget system for Android 12 with support for the Material You theme. Lastly, OPPO also has its own widget implementation called Quick View Cards in ColorOS 12.

The following list of alleged Xiaomi phones that support the new MIUI widget includes Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Pro, Mi 11 Youth Edition, Mi 10 Pro, Mi 10, Mi 10s, Mi 10 Ultra, Mi 10 Youth Edition, Mi CC9 Pro, Redmi K40 Pro , Redmi K40, Redmi k40 Gaming Edition, Redmi Note 10 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G, Redmi K30 Pro, Redmi K30, Redmi k30 Ultra, Redmi K30 5G, Redmi k30i 5G, Redmi 10X Pro 5G and Redmi 10X 5G.
