JAKARTA – The iOS 15 software brings a lot of new features to the iPhone, but unfortunately for some, it also causes annoying bugs with Instagram Stories. While the update may not be as revolutionary as iOS 14, iOS 15 is still a welcome addition to the iPhone.

It makes notifications better than ever, many of Apple's first-party apps are getting new features, and Focus mode offers deep customization of how you use your phone during certain times of the day.

As with any major software update, iOS 15 isn't perfect yet. There were a lot of bugs in the early beta, which forced Apple to delay the full launch of iCloud Private Relay until a later date. It also causes strange errors with Apple Music on iPhone 13 models. The overall experience with iOS 15 is fine for the most part at this point, but that doesn't mean the launch was flawless.

Apart from the above problems, another problem with Instagram has also been seen. As reported by The Verge, some people have complained that the audio for Instagram Stories won't play when the iPhone's ring switch is set to mute. Setting the switch to silent should only affect audio for notification sounds, not media playback. This has definitely caused a bit of confusion for avid Stories users, but luckily, there's good news that comes with it.

How To Fix Instagram Stories Bug On iOS 15

In a statement sent to The Verge, Instagram confirmed that it is aware of the issue and is working to fix it. As Instagram explains, "We're aware that some people are having trouble hearing their audio on Instagram Stories. We're working to fix this issue as quickly as possible and apologize for the inconvenience."

It would have been nice if Instagram had caught this bug during iOS 15 developer/beta testing, but at the very least, it did a good job of rolling out a fix very quickly.

In fact, an update to address this issue appears to be active. For anyone who has Instagram installed, open the App Store, tap the profile icon in the upper right corner, and drag down on the screen to refresh the list of available app updates.

Instagram should be up there with an update to version 206.1 — thus solving the annoying ring toggle bug. There may be additional iOS 15 quirks that keep popping up in the days to come, and however annoying, they all need to be resolved in a fairly timely manner. Keep an eye out for anything weird, update the app as soon as a new version is available, and get those Stories back to normal.
