JAKARTA - YouTube users will soon no longer need to use third-party applications to download videos from Google's platform. YouTube is currently testing a feature to download videos from the desktop.

However, this trial is only available to YouTube Premium subscribers until October 19, selected users can also provide input for YouTube in the development of its features.

Launching The Verge, Saturday, September 25, in fact, the option to download videos on the YouTube application has been available for a long time on mobile devices. Therefore, YouTube is currently testing so that its users can also download videos on their PC devices.

A trial of the feature is available on Chrome, Edge, and Opera browsers. However, this feature cannot be used in Safari. Later, the downloaded video will appear on the Download tab which can be accessed in the menu on the left side of the PC screen.

YouTube provides three download quality options, namely 1080p for high definition quality, 720p for medium quality, and 144p for low quality. While the 360p and 4K quality options are not available.

Downloaded videos can also be deleted, and will be deleted automatically if the device does not have an active internet connection for 30 days.

Unlike third-party sites, YouTube does not provide video files to be stored on the hard drive forever. Instead, YouTube gives viewers access to cached versions of videos for offline viewing.

Unfortunately, it is not known for sure when this feature will officially be rolled out to all global users, and whether this feature will also be available for non-premium customers.
