JAKARTA - In the midst of a tax battle on goods and services traded in Indonesian territory, the Ministry of Education and Culture (Kemendikbud) today, Wednesday, June 17, announced a partnership with a streaming entertainment service provider, Netflix.

As part of the Learning from Home program and for the first time in the world, Netflix documentaries will be broadcast through the Republik Indonesia television channel (TVRI).

Starting June 20, documentary films offered by Netflix will premiere every Saturday at 21.30 WIB and replay every Sunday and Wednesday at 09.00 WIB.

It should be noted that the Learning from Home program, which was launched on April 12, is an alternative to learning in the midst of the COVID-19 attack. This effort was carried out by the Ministry of Education and Culture to ensure that in this difficult time the community continues to have the opportunity to learn from home, one of which is through television media with the widest reach in Indonesia.

"The Home Learning Program at TVRI is aimed at helping students, parents, and teachers who have limited internet access, either due to economic or geographical constraints," said Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Anwar Makarim in his official statement, Wednesday, June 17.

"Even during school holidays, the Ministry of Education and Culture remains committed to providing high-quality broadcasts that educate and entertain," added Nadiem.

Netflix's efforts to continue building quality education when facing this event have been welcomed by Netflix, which contributes to providing world-class content for this collaboration at no cost.

"Through cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Culture, more Indonesians will be able to access and enjoy Netflix Original documentaries,"

Vice President of Netflix Original Local Language Content, Bela Bajaria

Another, the Ministry of Education and Culture also does not rule out the possibility to work with other partners in presenting the best educational materials for all Indonesian people.

Some of the documentaries from the Netflix Original that can be watched on the Learning from Home program include Our Planet, Street Food: Asia, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, Spelling the Dream, Chasing Coral, and Night on Earth. The documentaries will be shown in Indonesian translation.

Bela also added, “We hope that Indonesians of all ages can learn and be inspired by the amazing nature of watching the documentaries Our Planet and Night on Earth, or by stories of persistence and exploration such as in the documentaries Spelling the Dream and Street Food: Asia."
