Google Has A Special Program For Women Who Want To Be Cloud Tech Engineers

JAKARTA - The Silicon Valley technology giant, United States (US) has just launched the Grow with Google for Women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) initiative.

This is a three-month program, which aims to train more than 100 female engineers and engineering students to increase their job opportunities and professional success in the growing cloud technology industry.

"This program is in line with our commitment to making diversity, equity and inclusion part of everything we do," Google said in a statement quoted by Entrepreneur, Wednesday, July 28.

The company detailed that Grows with Google for Women in STEM will combine weekly virtual sessions on soft skills with cloud topics, and participants will complete online courses to specialize as Associate Cloud Engineers.

Those selected will receive mentoring by members of the Google Cloud team, as well as other specialists and engineers from various schools and institutions, who will share their knowledge and answer their questions during live virtual sessions.

"The workshops will cover topics such as subconscious bias, non-verbal language, leadership and how to prepare for a job interview, among others," Google said.

Upon completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate with curriculum grades and the opportunity to take an exam for Google Cloud certification.

Google aims to help reduce the gender gap and inequality that exists in the STEM field. The company points out that in Mexico only 9 percent of women intend to study a STEM career. According to data compiled by the Labor Observatory, in 2020 only 19.5 percent of professionals working in some engineering in the country are women.

Interested in Joining the Grow with Google for Women Program in STEM?

Anyone, especially women, can apply by filling out the form before 12 August. The training will begin on September 1, 2021. Google will select participating engineers along with InRoads, an NGO dedicated to preparing young students to open up more job opportunities for minority groups.

Candidate must have a profile focused on any engineering and interested in the cloud industry. They must be students with a maximum of one year after graduation, or with less than one year after completing their studies, in both cases required to have a minimum average of eight. In addition, they need to have access to a computer and the internet.

"With this initiative, from Google we are working to help build a more diverse workplace in technology, by opening up more opportunities for women in communities where numbers show they are under-represented," said Google.
