JAKARTA - YouTube has finally announced the launch of the beta version of YouTube Shorts in Indonesia, Friday, July 23. This is a new feature and experience for watching and creating interesting short videos from mobile.
This new feature at first glance looks similar to Instagram's Reels and TikTok features. Shorts is predicted to be a competitor to the two giants. First announced in September 2020, YouTube has since expanded access to YouTube Shorts to 26 countries. Now Shorts is available in more than 100 countries around the world where access to YouTube is available.
"(This feature) is presented for users to be able to be creative from their cellphones easily anywhere. We want the process of making video shorts to be easier and more fun," said Marketing Director of Google Indonesia, Philippines, and YouTube Southeast Asia, Veronica Utami in a press conference YouTube Shorts launch, Friday 23 July.
While the short video format was first available on YouTube, now the whole world can access the YouTube Shorts creation tool for the first time. These shorts are like a multi-segment camera for stringing several video clips into one. In addition there is the ability to record videos accompanied by music, control speed settings, and more.
As this feature expands worldwide, Veronica says YouTube is also bringing a new set of features. This includes the ability to reuse audio samples from both other Shorts videos and from across YouTube, including billions of videos from around the world. This feature makes YouTube Shorts a new medium for expressing creativity.
"With this capability, users can add a touch of creativity to the content they love to watch on YouTube and help it reach new audiences. For example, such as reacting to a favorite joke, remaking a new recipe from another creator, or reenacting a scene from another funny video. ' said Veronica.
Eventually, the creators will be in control and they can choose to disable this feature if they don't want their long videos to be used for YouTube Shorts. "As we develop Shorts with creators, we will add more features for Indonesians to try," said Veronica.
YouTube easily helping users find Shorts videos to watch while increasing visibility to creators is the main focus of this feature experience.
"That's why before we announced the creation tools in YouTube Shorts, we created a special line on the YouTube home page dedicated to video Shorts, launched a new viewing experience that allows users to simply swipe up to watch more videos, and added a new Shorts tab on mobile devices. which makes it easy for users to watch Shorts videos with one tap," said Veronica.
