JAKARTA - The technology for lifting the roof of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) project is something new in Indonesia. The technique was discussed by DKI Jakarta BUMD, PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda) or Jakpro together with the Young Engineers Forum - Indonesian Engineers Association (FIM-PII) in an online seminar, Friday 9 July night.

The online seminar is one of three series of collaborations between Jakpro and FIM-PII in realizing the socialization and publication of JIS construction development.

The three series are filled with different themes targeting academics, construction practitioners, students, Jakpro employees and the general public.

JIS Project Director Iwan Takwin said the construction of JIS was a mandate from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to Jakpro to build and manage an integrated JIS sports area for the public.

The construction of JIS began in 2019, but over time many challenges were faced ranging from strict completion targets to the emergence of a pandemic in the first quarter of last year.

However, these challenges have spurred Jakpro together with KSO project implementers and other "stakeholders" to continue to innovate, improvise, and collaborate so that JIS development can be carried out and completed according to the target.

"So friends in the field such as consultants, contractors continue to collaborate to find a way out of this challenge," said Iwan when he became Opening Remarks at a webinar with the topic "Jakarta International Stadium: 3,900 ton Roof Lifting Technology".

Iwan added that the construction of JIS is a strategic project in Jakarta and even Indonesia. That is why, the strategy for implementing its development must also be with a major strategic breakthrough.

For example, during the construction of the stadium which will be the headquarters of Persija Jakarta, Jakpro took advantage of digitization. This is Jakpro's innovation to be more effective, efficient and transparent in every project undertaken, including real time monitoring to the Building Information Modeling (BIM) system.

With this digitization, JIS development documentation from the planning, execution, to maintenance process is carried out in a transparent and accountable manner.

With the development of technology, Jakpro believes that the company is the first BUMD pioneer to use BIM or one of the technologies in the field of "Architecture, Engineering and Construction" (AEC) which is able to simulate all information in a development project into a three-dimensional model.

In addition, the construction of JIS also made history for the world of construction and infrastructure in Indonesia. Because, the design and construction of a steel roof truss with a weight of 3,900 tons and the largest span in Asia and even the world, was assembled under and lifted simultaneously to become the JIS roof.

"16 points must be lifted synchronously in a computerized manner every five millimeters to reach 96 meters," he said.

Meanwhile, General Chairperson of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII) Heru Dewanto appreciated the success of the JIS roof truss removal series. According to him, this is a monumental work of civil engineering in Indonesia that demands a high level of expertise and professionalism.

"This is a historic moment because JIS is among the 10 largest stadiums in the world, at least according to the UK-based Media Daily Mail," said Heru.

In fact, according to Heru, JIS is parallel to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium belonging to the Spanish capital club Real Madrid because of the similar opening and closing structure of the roof. Interestingly, the Santiago Bernabeu is also being renovated.

The difference is, the lifting of the roof of the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, in Madrid only weighs 700 tons and is carried out in stages.

“This means that the JIS space truss roof structure that can open and close is the largest and heaviest in Asia and even the world. This heavy lifting is the best achievement of Indonesian engineers," he explained.

In this webinar the speakers consisting of M Rizky Fauzi, Project Construction Manager for the Jakarta International Stadium and Arga Frandsiska,

The Project Manager of PT Wika Industri and Konstruksi explained about the lifting process of the roof truss weighing 3,900 tons along the 270 meters, which can be lifted up to a height of 70 meters simultaneously.

It is hoped that this collaborative webinar can make JIS an object of learning for the construction world as well as an academic study at the Faculty of Engineering in Indonesia. That way, the construction of JIS will become a benchmark for stadium development in Indonesia in the future.
