JAKARTA - Electric car manufacturer Tesla recalled about 285,000 of its vehicles in China. The company said it would update its Autopilot feature, to prevent drivers from activating the feature incorrectly while driving.

This comes after state regulatory agencies investigated claims that drivers inadvertently switched to Autopilot while driving. China's State Administration for Market Regulation, believes there are safety concerns if Autopilot is not fixed.

Quoted from Gizmochina, Wednesday, June 30, when the Autopilot feature turns on accidentally, the vehicle can accelerate or decelerate quickly. Sudden acceleration or deceleration can cause a collision.

According to the regulator, Tesla has started the software update process since last Saturday. Most of the vehicles affected are locally produced Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, while more than 35,000 imported Tesla Model 3s will also be refurbished.

Tesla has had some safety-related issues connected to Autopilot in its vehicles lately. Several fatal crashes have also been recorded both in China and in the United States (US). However, Tesla continues to pursue the development of a larger Autopilot feature, with safety considerations being a factor in its development.

Elon Musk's ln company has made significant progress in penetrating the Chinese market, which is arguably the largest EV market. Tesla has seen it quickly invest in building factories in the country to keep its products competitive.

Musk himself once stated that China is the next largest market after the US. In April, the company reported that the US and China accounted for about 70 percent of its revenue.
