Google is expanding the functionality of Google Vids with a feature that can create an AI avatar that resembles the user's face and voice. The digital avatar is created from selfies and voice recordings uploaded.
TechCrunch quoted Friday, July 17, saying Google Vids updates were announced by Google on Thursday. The feature expands the functionality of Vids from an AI-assisted work presentation tool into a more complete video creation platform.
Google is also bringing Gemini Omni to Vids. The multimodal AI model can process multiple types of inputs at once, including written commands and reference images.
Users can combine text and images to create an AI video. Gemini Omni then processes all of the input into a video on demand.
The model can also change the background, improve the lighting of videos recorded using a mobile phone, and add effects.
Editing can be done gradually. Users don't have to start from scratch every time they want to change the video result.
Google Vids is part of Google Workspace. Therefore, the service is still aimed at business needs, such as creating training videos and the latest company information.
However, personal avatars and the ability to change videos through commands make Google Vids closer to AI video services such as HeyGen, Synthesia, Captions, and D-ID.
Google says the AI avatar will be associated with the appearance of the account owner and the user's Google account. The company will also embed SynthID, an invisible digital watermark, in the video.
Access to personal avatars is restricted for users aged 18 and over in certain regions.
