JAKARTA - Amazon founder Jeff Bezos rejects the notion that artificial intelligence or AI will automatically cut human jobs. He actually assesses that AI can trigger labor shortages by opening up more problems to be solved.
According to an Anadolu Agency report quoted on Friday, June 19, Bezos expressed this view at the VivaTech technology exhibition in Paris, Thursday.
"I absolutely disagree with that. I think artificial intelligence will create labor shortages because this technology will allow people to identify more problems," Bezos said.
According to Bezos, the biggest limit of humans is not in the ability to imagine something. The problem is the ability to implement ideas.
"It's not our imagination that limits us, but what we are capable of doing," he said.
Bezos believes that many ideas have not been realized because they are difficult to implement. AI, said Bezos, can speed up the process and make more ideas work.
Bezos' statement remains interesting to read in another context. Anadolu noted that Amazon has cut about 30,000 jobs since the end of last year while pursuing a strong position in the field of AI.
Bezos also touched on the space business through Blue Origin, the space company he founded.
According to Bezos, the space sector is not lacking in demand. What is limited is the supply. Access to space, which is still expensive and limited, is said to be one of the major obstacles to future development.
He called the moon an important starting point in space exploration.
"We're going to the moon not just to visit, but to stay," Bezos said.
