JAKARTA ⎻ Director of Digital Infrastructure Strategy and Policy, Ministry of Komdigi, Denny Setiawan revealed the latest developments from the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz radio frequency band auction opened by Komdigi.
In a discussion held at the 2026 Selular Award, Denny stated that the auction was still in the selection process. Although there is no result that can be shared, Denny believes that the winner of the auction will be announced before Independence Day.
"I was asked when the 5G would be released. Now it is in the process of selecting the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz spectrum," said Denny on Monday, June 8 at the Peninsula Hotel. "Hopefully before Indonesia's Independence Day on August 17, (the winner of the auction) can be released."
The 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequency auctions are one of the efforts of the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) in improving the 5G network throughout Indonesia. Hopefully, people can feel the quality of mobile broadband is better than before.
"Later 5G will be the real 5G (after the auction of the 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz frequencies are carried out). Not 5G that feels like 4G," added Denny.
In the frequency auction held by Komdigi, the 700 MHz band, which is in the low band radio frequency, can improve the quality of mobile signals that are considered low or still weak. This frequency band is expected to expand the reach of mobile broadband internet access.
Meanwhile, the 2.6 GHz frequency band will focus on providing high data traffic density in urban areas. This mid-band radio frequency is believed to be able to encourage more stable and high-speed mobile internet services.
