Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the Golkar Party Faction, Nurul Arifin, assessed that the development of artificial intelligence (AI) must be accompanied by the strengthening of human values so that technology does not lose its direction and instead creates new social problems.
In his presentation on AI ethics and Pancasila, in a discussion in Jakarta, Friday, June 5, Nurul said that technology was never truly neutral because behind every algorithm there were choices, values, and human responsibilities that created it.
"Technology should not only be seen from the perspective of efficiency or economic benefits. The development of AI must continue to place humans at the center of every decision," said Nurul.
According to him, current AI progress presents challenges that not only relate to technology, but also touch on moral, democratic, and national life aspects. Therefore, important decisions regarding law, health, and human destiny should not be entirely left to machines.
"Human values cannot be reduced to mere data and statistics. There are human and wisdom aspects that cannot be replaced by technology. AI is a servant, man is the master. Don't let this role switch places," said the Head of the Media and Public Opinion Gathering (MPO) of the Golkar Party.
Nurul assessed that Pancasila has an increasingly strong relevance in the digital era. The First Principle reminds us that AI is only a tool, not a source of truth or a substitute for human wisdom. Meanwhile, the Second Principle emphasizes the importance of respect for human dignity, including the protection of privacy and the right to correct information.
He also highlighted the threat of the spread of hoaxes, propaganda, and deepfake technology that could disrupt national unity and erode public trust.
"The digital space has become a new arena for the struggle for influence. Therefore, we must strengthen digital literacy and ensure that technology is not used to divide society," said this member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from West Java District 1.
In addition, Nurul reminded that AI has the potential to significantly change the world of work. According to him, digital transformation must be accompanied by the improvement of human resource skills so that the benefits of technology can be felt evenly.
"Don't let technological progress be enjoyed by only a few parties. AI must be a means to improve people's welfare and realize social justice," he said.
He added that Indonesia needs stronger regulations to regulate AI governance, while ensuring that innovation continues to develop without sacrificing public interests.
"In the midst of very rapid changes, Pancasila must be Indonesia's moral compass in facing the AI revolution. Technology must serve humans, not the other way around," said Nurul.
