JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital has reaffirmed its commitment to support the steps of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in protecting local MSMEs in the e-commerce ecosystem.
Minister of Communications Meutya Hafid said that he would not allow digital platforms to unilaterally burden local MSMEs, so that MSMEs remain sustainable, have healthy competitiveness, and are strong in the digital space.
"Digital platforms must be fair and must not burden small and medium enterprises and the community unilaterally," said Meutya Hafid when receiving an audience with the Minister of MSME Maman Abdurrahman on Thursday, May 21.
Meutya Hafid added that the Ministry of Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade is ready to support policies that are fair for MSMEs that are currently in the process of being officially approved, where the Ministry of Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade encourages platforms to provide a 50 percent discount on service costs for micro and small business actors.
"Through this support, the government hopes to maintain the healthy growth of the national digital ecosystem while strengthening the competitiveness of Indonesian MSMEs in the midst of increasingly tight digital economic competition," he said.
The government emphasizes that any adjustment of service costs by marketplace platforms must be carried out transparently and provide business certainty for MSMEs.
The initial approach will be persuasive, but firm steps will be taken if violations of the spirit of protecting MSMEs continue.
Meanwhile, Minister of MSME Maman Abdurrahman welcomed the support of the Ministry of Cooperatives, Industry, and Trade. He emphasized that the government would continue to be at the forefront of defending the interests of MSMEs as the backbone of the national economy.
"With this solid collaboration, we ensure that local MSMEs are no longer unfairly burdened. The digital ecosystem must protect and empower small businesses so that Indonesia is stronger in the digital economy era," said Maman.
This statement came after the ecommerce platform TikTok Shop announced an increase in commission fees for merchants starting May 18, 2026. In addition, TikTok Shop is also rumored to increase the commission fee again on June 1, 2026.
