JAKARTA - WhatsApp has launched Incognito Chat with Meta AI, a new feature that allows users to have completely private conversations with the help of artificial intelligence (AI).
In its official announcement, Meta revealed that this feature was built using Private Processing technology to ensure that user conversations cannot be accessed, even by Meta itself.
"Other apps have introduced incognito-style modes, but they can still see incoming questions and outgoing answers. Incognito chat with Meta AI is completely private, no one can read your conversations, not even us," the announcement reads.
So, when users start Incognito Chat with Meta AI, they will create a private and temporary conversation that can only be seen by the user themselves.
Messages are processed in a secure environment that Meta can't access. Conversations are also not saved and by default will disappear giving users space to think and explore ideas without anyone seeing.
Meta said the launch of this feature was motivated by the increasing use of AI to search for information and answer important questions, which prompted the need for stronger privacy protection.
"We believe this private way to chat has the potential to be part of the many ways people chat with AI on WhatsApp," he added.
In the coming months, Meta also plans to launch a "Side Chat" feature that is also protected by Private Processing technology, which will later allow Meta AI to help users based on the context of a particular conversation without interrupting the main chat.
