Threads, a platform integrated with Instagram, launched a messaging feature for web version users. That way, users don't have to open the app just to reply to messages.
The launch of this feature was carried out because of the many requests from active users who often access Threads through the desktop. According to Meta, the company that oversees Threads, the messaging feature should be flexible on any device.
Thanks to this launch, the web version now comes with a 'Messages' tab to open the inbox. Users can also see the 'Requests' section in the tab to start a new message.
Threads' head, Connor Hayes, said that access to messaging on the Threads web was one of the features that had been anticipated since DM was introduced last year. This is expected to support longer use of the application.
The use of the messaging feature on this platform has indeed shown a positive trend since the beginning of 2026. Internal Threads data, launching from TechCrunch, notes that there are around 350 million messages sent by users every week worldwide.
In addition to the DM feature, Threads has also just introduced a 'Live Chats' feature for real-time community conversations. With this feature, 150 participants can send text and media simultaneously in one chat room.
These new features show that Threads is trying to continue to dominate the text-based social media market. Users now have more options to stay connected without having to always rely on mobile devices.
