Apple Speaks Out After Being Accused of Deleting Cities in Lebanon During the Conflict: "It Never Happened!"

JAKARTA - The giant technology company Apple has finally spoken out about the serious allegations that Apple Maps services remove the names of cities and villages in Lebanon amid the conflict with Israel.

This issue is widely discussed on social media, where a number of users accuse Apple of deliberately removing the names of regions in southern Lebanon, even in connection with the sensitive geopolitical situation. The accusation sparked speculation that Apple was siding in the ongoing conflict.

However, Apple has firmly denied all of these claims. In its official statement to the media, Apple confirmed that the report was not true. "We are aware that there are a number of parties who have falsely reported that some village and city names in Lebanon have been removed from Apple Maps. In fact, the location has never been displayed since the beginning," said an Apple spokesperson.

This controversy is getting hotter because it is happening in the midst of increasing tensions in the region, especially after the Israeli military operation in southern Lebanon. However, Apple insists that there is no change or deletion of data as alleged.

Comparison with Google Maps is in the spotlight

The difference in detail between Apple Maps and Google Maps is also a subject of debate. Many users point out that Google Maps displays more details of the region in Lebanon than Apple Maps.

However, this difference is actually not new. Digital mapping systems have high complexity, including in the naming of areas (toponymy), which often differ depending on international standards, local languages, to the data sources used.

For example, one location can have different spellings on each platform. This shows that the difference in appearance does not mean that data is deleted, but can be caused by variations in systems and updates that are not evenly distributed.

Apple Admits Service is Not Optimal in Lebanon

In its follow-up explanation, Apple also revealed that the latest and more detailed version of Apple Maps is not yet fully available in Lebanon. This is one of the reasons why the information displayed is still limited compared to competing platforms.

Without a public archive that allows users to see old versions of Apple Maps, it's difficult to prove definitively whether data has ever changed. However, Apple remains adamant that the accusation of deleting area names is unfounded.

This is not the first time that Apple Maps has been in the spotlight. Since its launch, the service has often been criticized for its data accuracy, which is inferior to competitors. In fact, in some previous cases, Apple Maps has caused controversy regarding sensitive location information.

Now, in the midst of a heated geopolitical situation, any small issue related to digital maps can quickly develop into a global controversy.
