JAKARTA - The Attorney General of Florida, James Uthmeier, announced plans to investigate OpenAI regarding the shooting incident on the Florida State University campus. This lawsuit involves ChatGPT.

In the lawsuit, the perpetrator of the attack allegedly used ChatGPT in planning the shooting. The incident, which occurred in April 2025, is known to have taken two lives and injured five others.

In addition to Uthmeier, the victim's family is also preparing to file a lawsuit against OpenAI. This lawsuit was filed because the family considers the platform to facilitate acts of violence.

"We demand answers for OpenAI's activities that have harmed children and endangered American citizens," Uthmeier said, quoted by TechCrunch on Friday, April 10. He also emphasized that Artificial Intelligence (AI) should not destroy humans.

The prosecutor's office plans to issue a court summons in the near future to collect evidence of the chatbot's involvement. This investigation will shed light on the phenomenon of 'AI psychosis' which is feared to worsen a person's mental condition or delusions.

In response, OpenAI stated that ChatGPT is used by hundreds of millions of people for positive purposes every week. The company also stated that they would continue to improve the security system of ChatGPT so that the response is more accurate.

An OpenAI spokesperson said it would cooperate fully with Florida law enforcement during the course of the investigation. They insisted that the company's top priority was to safely deliver scientific benefits to the wider public.
