JAKARTA - Vivo officially opened early access to Android 17 through the Developer Preview program, following the steps of competitors such as Oppo, OnePlus, and Realme in presenting the beta version of the latest operating system to users.

The program is based on Android 17 Beta 2 and is currently limited to the two latest flagships, namely the Vivo X300 Pro and iQOO 15. Early access has been opened in mainland China, with a global expansion expected to follow in the near future.

Despite offering the latest features and improvements, Vivo insists that this version is intended for developers and advanced users, not for daily use because it still contains many bugs.

On the Vivo X300 Pro, a number of reported problems include the fingerprint sensor not working, the screenshot feature not available, and potential crashes in certain system apps and settings. Meanwhile, on the iQOO 15, the constraints include fingerprint and face recognition that are not active, problems with the home button, to the small window feature that sometimes fails to open.

Vivo also reminds that users cannot return to the stable version without performing a factory reset, so data backup is a mandatory step before installation. In addition, the device must have at least 5GB of free space and a battery above 40%.

For the installation process, users need to download the official firmware, then move it to the device's internal storage via a USB connection. After that, the update can be done through the System Upgrade menu by selecting the Local Upgrade option.

If there are problems, users can submit reports through the Feedback application available in the system. The option to downgrade to Android 16 is still available, but requires a special firmware package from the Vivo developer site.

Vivo's move reinforces the Android industry trend, where vendors are increasingly aggressive in opening early access to the latest version of the operating system to accelerate the adaptation of applications and ecosystems.
