JAKARTA - DeepSeek is reported to use Huawei Technologies-designed chips for its latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) model. The model will be named V4.

Based on The Information's report, hundreds of thousands of Huawei's latest chip units have been ordered to support the launch of this AI model. A number of other technology giants such as Alibaba, ByteDance, and Tencent are also rumored to support the presence of the V4 model.

In addition to Huawei, DeepSeek also spent months working with chip designer Cambricon Technologies. Through this collaboration, DeepSeek focuses on rewriting the basic code of the model.

In addition to the main model, DeepSeek is also developing two additional variants of the V4 that have different optimization capabilities. All variants are specifically designed to operate efficiently on various types of Chinese-made chips.

Unlike industry standard practices, DeepSeek reportedly does not provide access to performance optimization to US chip manufacturers. This AI laboratory instead provides exclusive early access to Chinese suppliers to strengthen their local ecosystem.

The launch of the previous generation models, V3 and R1, had caused a shock in the technology stock market due to their very low operating costs. Now, the arrival of DeepSeek V4 is eagerly awaited by investors to see the computing power efficiency offered.

This next-generation model is likely to be launched to the public in the coming weeks. Until now, Huawei and DeepSeek have not given official comments regarding the details of the purchase of a large number of chips.
