JAKARTA - Samsung officially launched the Galaxy S26 Ultra on Thursday, February 26 with a unique security feature. The feature, which is called Privacy Display, will function like anti-spy tempered glass.
Until now, anti-spy tempered glass is still in demand to maintain device privacy. The screen layer will make it difficult for people around you to see your phone screen. However, the better the quality of the tempered glass, the more expensive it is.
To reduce the need for users to buy additional screen security layers, Samsung presents Privacy Display. This technology will ensure that the display remains secret from the view of strangers or people around.
There are three types of in-layer security in Privacy Display, namely standard security, screen security for applications or notifications, and maximum security. The first security type can be obtained immediately by activating the Turn on Privacy Display menu.
This type will darken the entire screen when viewed from an oblique angle. However, the display is not too dark because the screen is still a little visible. Even so, people around should pay extra attention to the screen to see the contents of the screen clearly.
The second type is an application-based activation system that can be automatically set according to needs. This feature will only be active when the user opens a sensitive application or the desired application.
In this second security layer, users can also keep incoming notifications. For example, when watching together, the screen will be very clear, but the notifications that appear will be blurry from the side.
On the third type of screen security layer, Samsung calls it Maximum Privacy Protection. This feature only works if the first layer is already activated. If you use the maximum mode, the screen will be completely dark from the side.
Samsung explained that this feature is only available exclusively on the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Other devices will not receive the feature, either the older S series or the standard S26 series and S26 Plus.
"This is developed in hardware in the S26 Ultra," said Ilham Indrawan, MX Product Marketing Senior Manager of Samsung Electronics Indonesia at the launch of the Galaxy S26 Series on Thursday, February 26. "It's not possible (on other devices, including the S25 Ultra)."
Ilham also explained the type of screen that the Galaxy S26 Ultra uses. The screen used is still Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X, as found in the previous series. Only, the pixel structure is made differently.
This structure is called the Two Patterns Pixel Structure which divides pixels into two types, namely narrow pixels and wide pixels. When the Privacy Display feature is turned off, both types of pixels will work simultaneously. However, when the feature is turned on, the system will turn off the wide pixel so that the light only shines in front.
