Discord Will Use Age Verification System Globally in March

JAKARTA - Like Roblox, Discord will launch an age verification system on its platform globally. This system, which will strengthen the security of this teenager's account, will be implemented starting next March.

This age verification system is implemented to create a more inclusive and secure digital environment for users over 13 years old. Later, all users will be required to verify their identity to access certain channels or content.

"The launch of default settings for teenagers is based on Discord's existing security architecture, providing strong protection for teenagers while providing flexibility to verified adults," said Head of Product Policy at Discord, Savannah Badalich.

This age verification process is designed to prioritize the privacy of Discord users' data. Users can choose various verification methods, such as face verification through a device or uploading official identity documents to a partner vendor.

Discord guarantees that the recording of selfie videos for facial verification will not be handed over to any party. Meanwhile, the identity documents submitted will be immediately deleted after the age confirmation process is completed.

Discord also uses age inference technology that works in the background to help detect the authenticity of account age. If the system finds doubts, users may be asked to perform additional checks to ensure the accuracy of the data.

Once verified, adult users will get full access to sensitive features such as the Stage channel or certain app commands. In contrast, a teenager's account will get automatic protection such as filtering foreign messages into a separate inbox.

The age verification status of each user is private and will not be displayed to other users on the platform. Confirmation of the verification result will be sent via a direct message from the Discord central account.
