JAKARTA - Alibaba Cloud has partnered with Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to implement cloud and AI technologies at the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

This technology is designed to enhance the viewing experience for audiences around the world, improve operational efficiency for broadcasters and provide a new way to efficiently capture, manage and preserve Olympic content.

"At Milano Cortina 2026, we are leveraging cloud and AI capabilities to deliver more dynamic broadcasts, more efficient broadcast workflows, and ensure that Olympic moments can be easily accessed by audiences around the world," said Senior Vice President of Alibaba Cloud Intelligence Group and President of International Business, Feifei Li.

At Milano Cortina 2026, Alibaba Cloud is introducing an enhanced Real-Time 360ยบ Replay system. This system enables immersive replays with smooth camera movement and stroboscopic visual effects.

OBS is also developing an Automatic Media Description (AMD) System powered by Alibaba's LLM Qwen, which will automatically be able to identify athletes and important moments, generate match descriptions, and tag video content in just a few seconds.

Cloud-based broadcasting is also being expanded at Milano Cortina 2026, continuing previous implementations at Tokyo 2020, Beijing 2022, and Paris 2024.

At Milano Cortina 2026, Live Cloud will support 39 broadcasters, delivering 428 live video content, including 26 ultra-high definition content and 72 audio content.

"Alibaba Cloud provides the technological foundation that enables AI to be applied on a large scale, making our operations more efficient while improving the viewing experience," added Yiannis Exarchos, CEO of Olympic Broadcasting Services.

In addition, the IOC introduced the first LLM-based system in Olympic history, powered by Qwen from Alibaba, to support fan engagement globally as well as internal operations across the Olympic ecosystem.

The Olympic AI assistant, available on the IOC's global website olympics.com, provides multilingual conversation support and up-to-date match information, allowing fans to access official Olympic content via a chat-based interface.
