Mozilla officially introduced AI controls in the Firefox browser, which allows users to manage and block all artificial intelligence (AI) based features.
In its official announcement, the company said that this new AI-powered feature will begin to be launched for Firefox 148, which is scheduled to be released on February 24, 2026.
All controls will be entirely in the user. Thus, you can choose to use some AI features, or disable the feature completely.
"Firefox offers AI features to improve your daily browsing experience. These features are optional, and easy to enable or disable," the announcement reads.
When launched, AI controls allow users to manage various features such as, web page translation, creating alt text on PDFs for accessibility, AI-based tab grouping, link previews, as well as an AI chatbot in the sidebar.
For chatbots, Firefox supports a variety of third-party service options such as ChatGPT, Anthropic Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, and Le Chat Mistral.
"You can choose to use some of these features and not use others. If you don't want to use Firefox's AI features at all, you can enable the Block AI enhancements switch," the company added.
The AI controls feature will be available early in Firefox Nightly, and Mozilla is opening up feedback from users through the Mozilla Connect platform.
