Ubisoft officially stopped developing six of its new games, including Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake, four unannounced games, and one mobile game.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stated that this move was taken as part of the company's major move to refocus its portfolio and business strategy amid the tight competition in the global gaming industry.
In addition, Ubisoft also mentioned another reason for the termination of this project was that the games did not meet the new quality standards set by the company.
"Ubisoft has stopped developing 6 titles that do not meet the criteria for quality improvement and a more selective portfolio priority at the Group level. This includes the Prince of Persia The Sands of Time remake and 4 unannounced titles, including 3 new IP, and one mobile game title," wrote Guillemot in his official statement.
Not only stopping the project, Ubisoft also decided to give additional time for the development of seven other games, in order to improve the final quality before release. However, it did not reveal the game titles.
Guillemot acknowledged that the decision to stop the project and close a number of studios was a difficult step, but it was considered necessary to build a more focused and sustainable company.
"This decision is indeed difficult, but it is necessary to build a more efficient, more focused organization, and able to create long-term value," he concluded.
Going forward, Ubisoft will centralize game development through five new business units called Creative Houses, each focusing on specific genres and product lines.
