JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital has emphasized that cybersecurity is currently the main foundation in protecting people's personal data as well as the sustainability of public services.
Because according to the Deputy Minister of Communication and Information Technology, Nezar Patria, cyber security can no longer be understood as a technical issue or merely handling hacking incidents.
However, cyberspace is now a strategic arena that has a direct impact on public life, ranging from administrative services, health, social assistance, to the democratic process.
"Cybersecurity today can no longer be understood as a technical issue or merely handling hacking incidents. The main threat is not a spectacular large cyber attack, but rather the slow erosion of sovereignty from systems," Nezar said in an official statement quoted on Tuesday, January 20.
He emphasized that dependence on foreign digital infrastructure, strategic data leaks, and information manipulation risk stopping public services and lowering public confidence.
"Digital infrastructure must be positioned as a security asset. Sea cables, data centers, clouds, identity systems, and artificial intelligence are part of the strategic battlefield," he said.
Therefore, Nezar emphasized the concrete steps of the government through strengthening the role of BSSN to ensure national cyber situational awareness, protect citizen data, maintain public services, and secure the democratic process.
"In the era of cyber geopolitics, the country is not defeated because it is attacked but because its digital space is left to be shaped by other parties. Our task is to ensure that Indonesia's digital space remains under Indonesian control," concluded Nezar.
