New Era of Mobile Photography: OPPO and Vivo Prepare Flagship with Two 200MP Cameras

JAKARTA - The global smartphone industry is preparing to enter a new phase in the competition for imaging technology. Two Chinese technology giants, OPPO and Vivo, are reportedly preparing to launch their latest flagship line featuring a 200-megapixel (MP) dual camera system. This move is predicted to change the map of mobile photography competition, especially in terms of detail sharpness and zoom capabilities.

Until now, there has not been a single phone on the market that has two 200MP cameras at once. The strategy adopted by both vendors is quite similar: pairing a large 200MP sensor main camera with a periscope telephoto camera that is also 200MP resolution. This configuration allows for lossless zoom shots and much wider cropping flexibility for professional users.

Veteran industry observer, Digital Chat Station, calls 2026 the "200MP Camera Year." This is supported by the readiness of major sensor manufacturers such as Sony, Samsung, and OmniVision which have begun producing 200MP sensors optimized specifically for telephoto lenses. One of the leaks mentions the use of a 200MP Galaxycore 1/1.4-inch sensor which will be the new standard for ultra-high resolution zoom photography.

OPPO Find X9 Ultra: Relying on Sony Lytia Sensor

The latest report shows that the OPPO Find X9 Ultra, which is scheduled to launch in March 2026, will be one of the pioneers. This device is rumored to carry a 200MP main camera with a 1/1.12-inch Sony LYT-901 sensor. To complete it, OPPO embeds a 200MP periscope camera using the OmniVision OV52A sensor that promises excellent performance in low light conditions, even when zooming in on images.

Vivo X300 Ultra: The King of Cameras from the Ultra Series

Not wanting to lose, Vivo also prepares the X300 Ultra as a direct challenger. The device powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset will also carry a 200MP dual camera. Vivo's focus this time is not just a gradual improvement, but a big leap to shift Samsung and Apple's dominance in the best camera category. Reports from the IMEI database show that the Vivo X300 Ultra will most likely also be available for the global market in the second quarter of 2026.

The presence of a 200MP dual system marks the end of smartphones' dependence on excessive digital manipulation or artificial intelligence (AI) to produce zoom photos. With a very large native resolution, the phone is now able to approach the quality of a professional camera (DSLR/Mirrorless) in capturing textures and fine details that were previously often lost in the compression process.

If this trend is successfully accepted by the market, experts predict that other global brands will soon follow suit in the coming generations, making 200MP resolution the new standard in the ultra-premium segment.
