JAKARTA - The Indian government has ordered X, an Elon Musk-owned platform, to change the technical procedures of the Grok chatbot. This order was issued because Grok can now create very vulgar content.

India's Ministry of Information Technology requires X to limit Grok's ability to create content containing explicit sexual elements. The company was given 72 hours to submit a report on improving Grok's content.

If X does not comply with the issued order, the platform formerly known as Twitter will lose its 'legal protection' status in the country. With the loss of this status, X will be required to be legally responsible for the content created by its users.

This case came to light after a member of parliament, Priyanka Chaturvedi, filed a complaint regarding the appearance of a manipulated image of a woman by Grok. Not only targeting adult women, the chatbot also produces inappropriate content involving minors.

Regarding the report, X admitted that there was a mistake in their security system. Although X has acted by deleting inappropriate images that are circulating, many other Grok-made inappropriate images can still be accessed.

"Non-compliance with these requirements will be considered serious and may result in strict legal consequences for the platform and related officials," the government wrote in its written decision, quoted on Monday, January 5.

India is not the first country to raise concerns about Grok's image editing capabilities. France has reported explicit content produced by Grok to prosecutors. They also reported Grok-made content to media regulators.

This was done to determine whether xAI, the company that developed Grok, violated the EU Digital Services Act. On the other hand, the X party stated that they would follow up on all users who use Grok's ability to create illegal content.

"We take action against illegal content on X, including Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), by removing it, permanently suspending accounts, and working with local governments and law enforcement if necessary," X wrote via its official Security account on Sunday, January 4.
