JAKARTA - The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) helps residents in Aceh Tamiang by presenting two units of Drinking Water (Arsinum). This technology is presented to facilitate access to clean water.

The heavy flooding that hit Aceh and Sumatra in late November caused a clean water crisis in a number of areas. This happened because the PDAM service was paralyzed. Although the service has resumed operations, the reach of PDAM is still uneven.

"This is very useful and of course relieves the burden of the people of Aceh Tamiang, especially for clean water needs," said Acting Regional Secretary of Aceh Tamiang, Syuibun Anwar, quoted from the official BRIN website on Tuesday, December 23.

Of the two Arsinum units brought in, BRIN has only placed its technology in one area. The institution placed Arsinum at the Aceh Tamiang Fire Department headquarters to facilitate the distribution of clean water to the surrounding residents.

For the second location, BRIN is still coordinating with the local government so that the placement is more targeted. By presenting this technology in the post-disaster area, BRIN believes that residents can get decent drinking water.

BRIN's Arsinum innovator, Wahyu Hidayat, explained that this tool is capable of processing turbid water and flood water into drinkable water. The technology is designed to produce a total of up to 30,000 liters of water per day if operated at maximum capacity.

Wahyu added that this device can produce 10 tons of drinking water and 20 tons of clean water every day. The quality of the water produced is claimed to have met national health standards set by the Ministry of Health.

The Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) rate in drinking water from the Arsinum filter is recorded below 80 mg/L, equivalent to bottled water products. To improve its quality for residents who are not used to it, BRIN also adjusts the calcium level to raise the pH of the water.
