JAKARTA - OpenAI officially opened a third-party application submission to be reviewed and published directly within ChatGPT. This initiative was first introduced at the DevDay event earlier this year.

The company said that this new initiative allows developers to build, distribute, and monetize applications that are integrated with the ChatGPT conversation.

"The submission includes details of MCP connectivity, testing guidelines, directory metadata, and country availability settings," OpenAI wrote in an announcement on its official website.

The approved application will later be found by all ChatGPT users through the Tools menu in ChatGPT or through the special chatgpt.com/apps page.

In addition, OpenAI also introduced a built-in application directory in ChatGPT. After connecting, the application can be called directly in a conversation by mentioning its name using the "@" symbol or selecting it from the tool menu.

OpenAI is also testing ways to automatically display relevant apps based on the context of a conversation, usage patterns, and user preferences.

In the initial stage, developers are allowed to direct users from the ChatGPT application to their original website or application to complete physical goods transactions.

OpenAI said it was exploring further monetization options, including for digital goods, as the use of the app in ChatGPT grew.
