Google continues to expand its device tracking ecosystem. The Find Hub app is now available on Wear OS-based smartwatches, allowing users to track lost devices and items directly from the wrist, without having to always rely on the phone.
The presence of Find Hub on Wear OS was first spotted appearing in the Play Store version of the smartwatch. This information was revealed by Assembledebug on the X platform and quoted by Android Police. Even so, its distribution is not even and seems to still be limited to some users.
Find Hub has long been an essential tool for Android users who rely on compatible smart tracking tags to keep track of their phones, earbuds, or other personal items. With support on smartwatches, the search process becomes more practical, especially in situations when the phone is in a pocket, bag, or luggage and is not easily accessible. Functionally, this is a small but relevant evolution, the watch turns from just a notification into a lightweight control center.
For now, Find Hub on Wear OS is allegedly only available natively on the Pixel Watch line. Models that are said to be compatible include the Pixel Watch 2, Pixel Watch 3, and Pixel Watch 4, which already run Wear OS 6. This version of the operating system is allegedly the main requirement for apps to appear directly on the watch Play Store.
But the door is not completely closed for other brands. If Wear OS 6 is the only requirement, then the latest generation of Galaxy Watches such as the Galaxy Watch 8 have the potential to get this feature after receiving a system update.
Interestingly, the Android Authority report mentions that the Find Hub app can actually run on a smartwatch without Wear OS 6 through the sideload method. Tests even show that the app can work on the OnePlus Watch 2R which has not received the Wear OS 6 update.
