JAKARTA - 2025 is marked by continued pressure on the industrial ecosystem reflected in the increasingly complex dynamics of global threats.

According to the latest Kaspersky Security Bulletin report, the share of industrial computers (ICS) facing malware attacks remains high, ranging around 21.9% in the first quarter before declining to 20% in the third quarter of this year.

From an industry perspective, Kaspersky revealed that the biometric industry ranked highest with 27.4% of malicious objects blocked on its industry computers.

This was followed by building automation (23.5%), electrical power (21.3%), construction (21.1%), OT engineering and integration (21.2%), manufacturing (17.3%), and oil & gas (15.8%).

These figures show that all critical sectors remain the main target for cyber threat actors.

Kaspersky also noted that attackers are increasingly leveraging supply chain attacks and trusted relationships, exploiting local vendors, contractors, and even critical service providers such as telecommunications operators, to penetrate traditional security defenses.

On the other hand, artificial intelligence (AI) based attacks continue to evolve, ranging from the use of AI as malware camouflage to autonomous agent-driven intrusion operations.

Growth in attacks is also seen in OT equipment exposed to the internet, especially in remote locations that still rely on old OT firewalls that have not been designed to deal with modern internet-based threats.
