BRIN Deploys Technology Assistance To Restore The Impact Of Aceh And Sumatra Disasters

JAKARTA The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) has deployed a Task Force Disaster Management Supporting team to floods and landslides in Aceh and Sumatra. In addition to personnel, BRIN also distributed technology support to accelerate the process of identifying damage and recovery.

The head of BRIN, Arif Satria, explained that assistance was provided since the first day of the disaster. He emphasized that BRIN immediately coordinated with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) through the use of satellite image data. This data is used to map affected areas, calculate potential further risks, and help make quick decisions in the field.

"Today we are not only mapping the location of the flood, but also showing the solidarity of the BRIN community to help our brothers and sisters in Sumatra," said Arif at the release of the Task Force and the delivery of BRIN Peduli assistance on Monday, December 8.

From a series of technologies presented at the disaster site, one of the important things according to BRIN is Arsinum. This is a special tool that can process dirty water into ready-to-drink water. This technology is urgently needed to overcome the clean water crisis.

In addition, BRIN also deployed advanced technology drones. The drone is capable of detecting objects up to 100 meters underground. This technology is deployed to assist the evaluation process and accelerate regional mapping.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Task Force, Joko Widodo, said that his team would continue to take advantage of foreign data. The satellite image data analysis team works every day to update information about the condition of areas affected by floods and landslides.

This satellite data is very important to determine the distribution route for logistical assistance efficiently. In addition, the data will be used to map areas that have the potential to experience further disasters so that the government can provide a more measurable response.
