JAKARTA TikTok launched a feature called Nearby Feed. This feature is specifically designed to meet user feeds with local-based content or those around them.

This feature can help users who are traveling to other areas for holidays. Without the need to search manually, users can find attractive local tourist attractions such as a hidden gem restaurant or popular tourist attraction that cannot be passed.

At the initial launch stage, this feature will be present in four European countries. The four countries selected are England, France, Italy and Germany. This feature will certainly be released in Asia because TikTok has been testing this feature in the region since 2022.

TikTok says that the content in the Nearby Feed is based on three things, namely the location where the user is located, the content topic the user may like, and the timing of the post. This will make the displayed content feel more personal.

"For example, people can view local content related to travel, events, food and beverages, and other services based on their interests and interactions," TikTok explained in a blog post, quoted on Friday, December 5.

Apart from benefiting users, this feature is also believed to help local creators and small entrepreneurs. The reason is, their content will reach more users in the same city or region.

This feature is only available to users aged 18 years and over. If the user activates location settings, TikTok can use GPS-based locations to provide more accurate and relevant recommendations.

Nearby Feed can be accessed directly from the TikTok home screen. Users don't need to access a special tab, but this content will be displayed on a regular feed with a nearest content description from the user's location.
