Amazon Partners With Nvidia Technology For AI Chips And Launches New Generation Servers

JAKARTA Amazon Web Services (AWS) on Tuesday, December 2, announced a major step in its artificial intelligence strategy by adopting Nvidia's key technology in the latest generation of AI chips, as well as releasing servers that are more powerful but more energy efficient.

AWS said it would use Nvidia's superfast connectivity technology called NVLink Fusion in a future chip called Trainium4, although its launch schedule has not been revealed. NVLink became Nvidia's flagship weapon because it was able to connect various types of chips at high speeds "an important requirement in training giant AI models that required thousands of machines to work simultaneously.

The announcement was released at the AWS annual cloud conference in Las Vegas, which attracted around 60,000 participants. Nvidia has recently been aggressive in encouraging other chip manufacturers to use NVLink, and AWS is now standing in line with Intel and Qualcomm as official partners.

AWS also introduced the AI Factories concept, namely exclusive AI infrastructure in customer data centers, made specifically to maximize the development speed of AI models on a large scale.

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, said the partnership created a computational network for the AI industrial revolution', and opened the door for companies around the world to take advantage of generating intelligence on a manufacturer scale.

On the other hand, Amazon launched a new Trainium3 chip-based server that is already available starting Tuesday. Each server contains 144 chips and is claimed to offer more than four times the computing capability of the previous generation, as well as cut energy consumption by up to 40 percent. AWS underlines that the main appeal of Trainium3 remains at a combination of high performance with cost efficiency, especially for companies that count closely in the use of AI hardware.

AWS also introduced a new generation of AI models called Nova 2, which are now faster and support multimodal responses, including text, images, videos, and voice. Another variant, Nova Sonic, is able to provide sound responses made to the quality of human conversations.

Amazon continues to seek to expand the penetration of the Nova model, which is still under the great appeal of ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. Even so, AWS recorded 20 percent sales growth in the last quarter, supported by cloud services and AI infrastructure.

In addition, AWS introduced a new service called Nova Forge, which allows companies to build their own AI models while retaining basic knowledge from early models.

Amazon shares rose 0.9 percent to 235.98 dollars in trading Tuesday afternoon.
