Menkomdigi Encourages Local Governments To Actively Fight Health Disinformation On The Internet

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid asked local governments to increase their active role in warding off health disinformation that is increasingly prevalent in the digital space, because it can be dangerous.

Meutya explained that there are so many misleading health content, created by creators without medical competence, but packaged attractively so that they are easily trusted.

"A lot of untrue information was conveyed by people without a health background," Meutya said in her official broadcast quoted Monday, November 24.

According to him, if disinformation occurs, it will seriously endanger the safety of the community. Therefore, he emphasized the importance of the role of the local government to ensure that people receive correct information.

According to him, local governments have a direct close relationship with residents who can be used to ensure the truth of information that reaches the public.

"The role of local governments is getting more strategic, it must be closer to the community, improve the quality of public services, have the right information facilities, and convey information correctly and consistently," he said.

By strengthening the role of local governments, the government hopes that the public will obtain accurate health information so that they are not easily influenced by harmful disinformation.

"This gives encouragement to friends in the regions to communicate publicly on central and regional government programs so that they are easily understood by the community," he concluded.
