Komdigi Opens Voice About Restrictions On Online Game Playing For Children

Responding to President Prabowo Subianto's plan to limit children from playing online games such as PUBG, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs said that Indonesia already has the policies that govern it.

The Director General of Digital Space Supervision of the Ministry of Komdigi, Alexander Sabar explained, the regulation is contained in Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 concerning Governance for the Implementation of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP TUNAS).

"Every form of content that contains violence, hate speech, or encourages risky behavior will be followed up according to the authority of the Komdigi," Alex said in his official statement to the media.

In addition, Alex also emphasized that this supervision does not only apply to PUBG online games, but also all digital platforms operating in Indonesia.

"Supervision does not only apply to one type of game such as PUBG, but includes all online platforms and games that have inappropriate content for children. Digital spaces, including games and social media, should not be space without boundaries," he stressed.

As a concrete step, he added, Komdigi has just inaugurated the Indonesia Game Rating System (IGRS), a risk-based game classification system and age categories that are the reference for monitoring and circulating online games in Indonesia.

This system functions to ensure that each game has a clear age label and is in accordance with the provisions of child protection in the digital space.

"We also encourage the cooperation of all parties: parents, school, and digital platforms so that children get a safe and healthy digital space," Alex said.

Not to forget, Alex also stated that he would impose administrative sanctions in the form of fines to termination of access, for anyone who does not comply with the provisions or continues to spread risky content.
