Wamenkomdigi: AI Literacy To Parents And Teachers Is Important To Prevent Brain Rots In Children

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria emphasized the importance of literacy in parents and teachers to prevent children from experiencing dependence on artificial intelligence (AI).

Because according to Nezar, improper use of AI can have a negative impact, for example, children who are accustomed to using AI from an early age can have dependence on AI and reduce their thinking skills (rot brain).

"What we are afraid of, isn't the children getting smarter with AI, what happens is the rot brain, the brain is not used optimally, it all depends on AI," said Nezar, quoted on Sunday, November 9.

Furthermore, Nezar also emphasized that the convenience of the community in accessing the current AI platform encourages the importance of digital literacy education for the public on how to use AI wisely.

Therefore, he appreciated the collaboration between various parties with the Ministry of Communication and Industry, to ensure that Indonesia not only has digital talents in the AI sector, but also people who are able to use AI wisely.

Currently, Nezar added, Komdigi has several AI development programs, one of which is AI Talent Factory which aims to produce digital talents so that they can compete at the global level.

Not only producing digital talent, the government is also preparing regulations so that AI adoption in Indonesia is carried out ethically and responsibly.

The Ministry of Communication and Trade has issued Circular Letter Number 9 of 2023 concerning Artificial Intelligence Ethics, which will later be strengthened by the National AI Roadmap and the AI Ethics Presidential Decree.

"Our goal is to prepare a globally standard AI talent and at the same time make them developers, not just users, and we must prepare an ecosystem that can also take advantage of their abilities," he said.
