Xiaomi 17 Ultra Without Background, Focus On Giant Cameras

JAKARTA - A recent leak reveals that Xiaomi 17 Ultra will likely not be equipped with a rearscreen like the Xiaomi 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max models. This phone is said to come with a circular camera module, similar to its predecessor, the Xiaomi 15 Ultra.

After launching the Xiaomi 17 series, the Chinese manufacturer is now reportedly preparing a premium model that will be its successor, namely Xiaomi 17 Ultra. This device is expected to be released on the Chinese market before the end of 2025, earlier than the usual global launch schedule which takes place at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event.

According to a recent post from the well-known leaker Digital Chat Station on the Weibo platform, Xiaomi 17 Ultra will bring a major increase in the camera sector. The phone is rumored to have a 50MP main camera with a large sensor and enhanced zoom in-sensor technology, allowing a smooth transition to telephoto lenses for focus range coverage without losing quality.

In addition, the telephoto unit is said to be using a large 200MP sensor with the ability to support a wide range of focal lengths. This camera is claimed to be capable of taking tele-macro photos with good enlargements, although the focus distance is not too close. The two lenses are also said to offer a high dynamic range (HDR) for more detailed and balanced photo results.

Regarding design, a Weibo user asks whether the Xiaomi 17 Ultra rear camera module will be integer or using a new design like a secondary screen. Digital Chat Station briefly replied, circular, indicating that this phone will continue to use a large, round camera module on the back without additional screens, different from previous rumors that said the secondary screen would be maintained.

This speculation contradicts previous reports stating Xiaomi will continue to maintain a rearscreen on its next-generation flagship. It could be that the decision to remove the rearscreen was taken so that internal space could be maximized for larger camera sensors.

In terms of specifications, Xiaomi 17 Ultra is said to be equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and a 68-inch flat OLED screen with 2K resolution. This phone is likely to come in three color options: black, purple, and white.
