IPhone 17 Pro Cosmic Orange Allegedly Changes Color To Pink, Apple Hasn't Responded

Jakarta One of the newest color variants of the iPhone 17 Pro, namely the Cosmic Orange, is reported to have changed color to pink on some devices. Initial reports emerged from the Reddit forum, where a user showed his iPhone 17 Pro Max which appeared to be changing color on the metal side of the body.

In the uploaded photo, the metal part around the phone frame looks pink, while the area around the camera bulge still retains the original orange color even though it slightly fades. Interestingly, the rear glass panel remains orange, leading to a change that only occurs in the element metal device.

Until now, there has been no official statement from Apple regarding this phenomenon. However, some observers suspect that the change in color could be caused by an oxidation process, namely a chemical reaction that causes metals to change color due to exposure to certain air or substances.

The oxidation process usually occurs for a long time. However, if the color change takes place quickly, it can be caused by environmental factors such as high humidity, hand oil, or chemicals attached to the surface of the cellphone.

Another possibility considered is the presence of imperfections in the aluminum anodization process, which is the electrochemical technique Apple uses to color and protect iPhone metals. Although this process is known to be very precise, small errors in production can trigger inconsistent color yields.

There has been no widespread report from other users experiencing the same thing, and this phenomenon appears to be still limited to one or more units. The case reminds some of the issues that have arisen before, such as Bendgate on the iPhone 6 and the problem of scratches on iPhone display units in stores.

Apple is expected to monitor user reports in the next few weeks to confirm whether this is an isolated case or potential production defect in the Cosmic Orange iPhone 17 Pro variant.
