JAKARTA The Brazilian government will begin construction of the TikTok data center within six months, according to an official statement on Friday, October 10. The project is expected to attract investments worth around 50 billion Brazilian reals (9.11 billion US dollars or around Rp. 148.8 trillion).

"Six months from now, we will start construction to accommodate the TikTok data center," Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy Alexandre Silveira said in a statement.

The project is expected to be located in the state of Ceara, Brazil's northeastern region. The plan was first unveiled by Reuters in April 2025, when three sources said ByteDance, a parent company from China that owns TikTok, was considering the move.

The facility will be built at the PCem port complex in Ceara, as part of a joint initiative between ByteDance and wind generation developer Casa dos Ventos, according to related sources.

Silveira said Brazil has great potential to attract data center investment due to the abundant availability of renewable energy. He also highlighted President Luiz Inacio's decision by Lula da Silva, which was signed last month to provide federal tax incentives to attract similar projects to the country.

In May 2025, Casa dos Ventos announced it had obtained two main permits to continue its 300 megawatt data center project at the PCem port complex.
