JAKARTA - Britain's largest automaker, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) extended its factory shutdown until October 1 following a cyber attack in early September.

The cyber incident that occurred earlier this month is said to have succeeded in crippling the company's operations, and making small suppliers difficult.

"Today, we have notified our co-workers, suppliers and partners that we have extended production cuts until Wednesday, October 1, 2025, following a cyber incident," the company wrote on its official website.

The company also confirmed that this decision was taken to provide certainty for employees, suppliers, and business partners, as well as prepare a gradual operational recovery schedule, while conducting an investigation.

In a statement, JLR said the internal team continues to work closely with cybersecurity specialists, the National Cyber Security Center (NCSC), and law enforcement officials to ensure recovery is safe.

The company also emphasized that their focus remains on supporting customers, suppliers, co-workers, and retailers who are still operating.

"We fully recognize that this is a difficult time for all parties related to JLR, and we thank everyone for their ongoing support and patience," he concluded.

This cyber incident was first detected on September 1, at which time, the company decided to shut down the IT system proactively to prevent wider impact spread.

This decision resulted in the termination of production at a number of JLR factories in the UK, and forced thousands of workers to stay at home.

It did not stop there, as reported by Wired, the disturbance immediately spread to the supply chain. Many automotive suppliers who depend on JLR experience delayed shipments, some are even forced to reduce production or terminate employment.

In addition, retail operations were also affected, including vehicle registration services and spare parts bookings.
